How Shipping Costs Are Calculated
Learn how carriers calculate the cost based on both the weight and size of the package
Weight-Based Pricing
Shipping costs are primarily calculated based on the actual weight of your package. Heavier packages cost more to ship due to increased fuel consumption and handling requirements.
Dimensional Weight
Carriers also consider the dimensional weight (volumetric weight) of your package. This is calculated using the package dimensions (length à width à height) divided by a dimensional factor. The higher of actual weight or dimensional weight is used for pricing.
Destination Factor
The destination country and location significantly impact shipping costs. International shipping rates vary by country due to distance, customs processing, and local delivery networks.
Service Type
Different shipping service levels (standard, express, priority) have different pricing. Express shipping costs more but delivers faster, while standard shipping is more economical but takes longer.
